Professor, Pathology & Laboratory Medicine
Clinical and Molecular Cytogenetics As the Director of the Clinical and Molecular Cytogenetics Laboratories at UCLA, my interests are varied from understanding chromosome structure and function using molecular cytogenetic techniques to identifying critical regions in microdeletion syndromes and leukemias. Recently, my research interests involved studying the clonality of cytogenetic abnormalities in Myelodysplastic Syndromes, and we are currently studying the feasibility of CGH and multicolor-FISH in mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphomas and esophageal squamous cell carcinomas. Our current projects include analysis of cytogenetic abnormalities in Paget's disease patients and analyzing the mouse karyotypes for identifying XXY males among the offspring of female chimeras from embryonic stem-cells. The cytogenetics laboratory is also a training site for interested residents, fellows and medical students.
